OUT OF CHARACTER
FULL NAME: Remus John Lupin
NICKNAME: Moony, Moonytunes
AGE / BIRTHDATE: 20; March 10, 1960
MARITAL STATUS: Single, but dating one Sirius Black
OCCUPATION: Technically N/A, but he survives by being a Healer in Dumbledore's camp
SCHOOL / YEARS: Gryffindor, 1971-1978 (should have been, but he did not graduate)
SCHOOL ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Prefect
APPEARANCE:Remus is just about average height for a boy his age; he's 5'9, a height that he appreciates because it doesn't draw attention to him. He's a bit lanky for his age, making his limbs sometimes seem a bit too long for his body. However, he's somewhat sinewy and still has muscle to him -- mostly on account of changing from wolf to boy every month.
He has light brown hair. It's just beginning to grey at his temples, something he tries desperately to hide because he fervently believes that James and Sirius will never let him live it down if they begin to see the one or two greys hiding in there. His hair often looks quite tousled, and he's perpetually try to make it go smooth. If he lets it grow too long, it starts to curl at the ends. His eyes are a fairly light shade of brown which, sometimes, look as if they have flecks of gold in them. His nose is a bit rounded at the end and can sometimes look as if it's a little too large for his face. One of his most charming features, without a doubt, is his smile. He has a very wide and open smile which is usually reserved for his friends.
He has plenty of scars about his body. The most recent are the ones that bridge across his face, catching him over the top of his nose and across his cheek. He tries to not be self-conscious about them, but he can't always help them. The original scar from Greyback is on the left side of his torso. In addition to the thin, silvery scars that spiderweb their way across his body, he usually has a bruise or two somewhere. Because of his injuries, he doesn't have any piercings or tattoos; he doesn't think he needs to modify his body anymore than it already is.
His appearance is often a little shabby. He wears a lot of second-hand clothes (many of them from his father). He favors jumpers quite a lot, and those typically are in washed out colors and will have holes in the sleeves. He doesn't entirely mind that. He's never resented having to wear second-hand items, and actually finds there to be something oddly comforting about them. Additionally, since most of his clothes are second-hand, he's more careful about taking care of them. He tries to be as neat as possible and that certainly comes across in the way he presents himself--he'll never show up to class in a wrinkled shirt. However, it's also not uncommon for him to have an ink spot or two on his fingers from having written an essay for class.
He has excellent posture and holds him upright the majority of the time. He sometimes will tend to look down when he's walking, but it's a habit that his friends have largely cured him of.

PERSONALITY: At first, Remus comes off as quite shy and quiet. He's often described as that nice, young man. And to a certain extent, that's certainly true. As a result of being a werewolf and fear of becoming an unwound, Remus does almost everything he can to attract a minimal amount of attention to himself. He's a hard worker largely because of this, knowing that he needs all the skills that he can gain in order to support himself and survive on his own.
However, once one gets to know Remus, they learn that he's just as mischievous as any of the other Marauders. He has a certain knack for putting together plans, seeing how things fit together, and using otherwise practical spells and skills to create a certain amount of mayhem. He doesn't do anything to be malevolent, but simply to get a laugh an in order to fit in. He's pretty quick with returning an insult or a quip, but rarely does anything he say carry any sort of bite.
His parents always taught him that it would be difficult for other people to accept him, so that is partially why he comes off so quiet -- and prior before being marked as an unwound, it did inhibit his ability to make good relationships. (Although, once he was your friend, there was nothing that Remus wouldn't do for you) However, since being marked as an unwound, Remus is a bit more open with his relationships. He's tired of wasting his life being suspicious or concerned with what people think about him. He's very welcoming with anyone who comes into the camp, and makes friends easily. He's still a bit slow to completely trust someone though. But there's no mistaking that being an unwound has made him more ready to take advantage of any opportunity that life offers. He's quite curious about other people's lives and experiences.
He's quite patient and often more mature than other boys his age. It gives him the ability to comfort other people well even if he might not exactly understand what they're going through. It helps him a great deal inside the camps, especially since he usually works as something of a healer.
He's slow to anger and quick to forgive. (Although when he is angry, you better watch out: Moony is no pushover and he's not going to step down if he thinks the opposite part is the wrong for some reason.)
Overall, Remus just wants to survive. He appreciates every good moment that happens to him more than most people would. He knows that nothing is a given. He knows that he has to be responsible for creating some of his own happiness. On the flip side, he tries not to let little things get him down, to detract from his enjoyment of life. While he's aware that he is difference, he doesn't want to waste his entire life feeling bad for himself; he's cautious, but he's not negative. Because he's adopted that mindset, he can also see how the world exists outside of him. He believes in justice (not revenge) wholeheartedly. And that's why he remained with the camps afterward. He wants to be able to affect lives other than his own.
SPECIAL ABILITIES / TALENTS: Werewolf. Has some good healing skills.
John Lupin - His father. Remus respects his father a great deal. He hopes to be a man as good as his father and missed him a great deal. He hasn't been able to talk to him since he was marked as an unwind.
Sylvia Lupin - His mother. Remus was always very close with his mother, and unlike many teenage boys, wasn't shy about telling her what was going in his life. He tried to be a good son for both of his parents, as if he could make up for being a werewolf. He hasn't spoken with her since he was marked as an unwind.
James Potter, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew: Remus views them all as brothers, and is especially close with Sirius. He misses James and Peter a whole lot, and wishes that he could communicate with them more often, but is always afraid of putting any of them in danger.
HISTORY: Remus was born late in the evening of March 10, 1960. He was his parents' first son and they were quite happy to have their first child. They had been married for close to five years already, but had been patiently waiting to have children until they were more financially secure. While Remus' mother stayed at home, his father was worked at the Ministry of Magic.
Although he remembers little to none of the time, the first few years of his life were relatively normal and quite happy. Shortly before his fifth birthday, however, Remus was bitten by the werewolf, Fenrir Greyback. His father had been insulted the powerful werewolf and, in retribution, Greyback lured Remus out one night before biting him.
After that, everything changed. In his world, werewolves were marked to be unwound at the age of 16, parental consent or not. His parents did everything they could for him; his father took great care to make sure that the Ministry never found out that Remus Lupin had been bitten by a werewolf. They tried any potential new trick that could cure lycanthropy, but nothing made any difference. Without fail, each month, Remus would change into a werewolf and would proceed to badly hurt himself. He nearly died several times when he was a child, simply from the blood loss.
Unable to risk bringing anyone in to help him for fear of exposure, the Lupins were forced to break one of their household rules. While his parents had used magic from unwinds on the rare occasion before he was bitten, they had vowed not to buy it after he became a werewolf. The difficulty of his transformations made that impossible; his mother was forced to buy magic that came with strengths in healing just so that she could take care of Remus afterward. It was something that his family never discussed afterward.
Of course, being around other children was nearly impossible after that. They had to move further into the country so that Remus could be hidden away without being heard during the full moon; it became more difficult the older he got, because the wolf would become bigger. Even at the times of the month when the moon wasn't full, Remus had difficulty being around other children. He was painfully shy as a result of his scars and his continued absence from other people; his parents became increasingly worried about placing him with other children, concerned that someone might piece together what he was and discriminate against him or, worse, take him away. He spent most of his time by himself and began to read a great deal; he enjoyed books because they were the next best thing. They were away for him to escape without getting hurt.
In a continued effort to maintain a normal life style, Remus was sent to Hogwarts -- although not without help. Minerva McGonagall, the headmistress at the time, was enough of a sympathizer that she quietly set up ways for Remus (and the other children) to remain safe, and turned a blind eye to his status as a potential unwound.
Although his parents were wary about the endeavor, Remus begged to go and they couldn't deny him. He ended up going to Hogwarts with the rest of the children his age - a very profound experience for Remus, indeed. Somehow, he found himself in Gryffindor. It was something of a puzzle to Remus, but he didn't mind his roommates all that much. Sirius and James provided a constant source of entertainment. He found himself comfortable to just watching their antics. Eventually, that changed. Somehow, it went from him just watching their antics to tagging along to actually helping them out. Remus was perpetually worried about breaking the rules and getting himself thrown out of Hogwarts, but James and Sirius had a way of convincing him at every twist and turn. At one point, he was quite convinced that there was nothing that they couldn't get him to do, whether good or bad.
Eventually, the worst happened. James, Sirius, and Peter figured out exactly what he was. He was convinced that that was the end of everything then. There was no way that they would want to be friends with a Dark creature like him; they'd tell everyone, he'd have to leave. They utterly shocked him with their decision though. He couldn't understand the impulse to remain friends with a werewolf, but to try and protect one by becoming Animagi was totally incomprehensible to Remus. He tried to talk them out of the whole idea, but it was to no avail.
Abruptly, he found himself surrounded by a small pack of his own on full moons. And it was perhaps the most incredible thing he ever experienced; becoming a werewolf was still difficult, but it wasn't destroying his life anymore. Being out with the others on the full was almost liberating; it was fun at the very least. It was so easy to push aside the danger when they professed to be having a good time and he could wake up the next morning without having to spend the next two days in the Hospital Wing.
Additionally, it created a stronger bond between all of them. Some of Remus' best memories were fostered after the others learned of what he was. He doesn't think that anything will ever top making the Marauder's Map, which he views as an absolute culmination of their friendship and how they all work together - and also ended in some truly terrific pranks.
Much as Remus had always feared, everything was too good to last. Eventually, another student -- Severus Snape -- found out about what he was. He was reported to the Ministry, and Remus was instantly marked as an unwound. Remus was upset. There was no denying that. He didn't want to die (even though he knew he wasn't supposed to think of it that way, he couldn't help it.) He tried to rationalize everything by reminding himself he knew there was a good chance that this would happen. That his life had been amazing so far. He was going to accept what was going to happen to him.
However, something happened that changed the course of his life -- Sirius's parents marked him as an unwound as well. Remus was far more devastated at that news than his own. He couldn't let Sirius be unwound as well. So the two of them took off together (added partially by McGonagall again.) They managed to make it to Dumbledore's camp. Remus quickly made himself useful by putting a lot of his healing skills to good use. They camp wasn't exactly easy to survive in -- but the important was was that he was surviving.
He and Sirius keep in touch with James the best they can. It's still dangerous, but they won't desert him entirely. They managed to sneak back when Harry was born (despite the fact they were both still underage).
Now, days before his 21st birthday, Remus knows he has the option of returning to the world that he left behind and making something of himself. But he also already knows that he's going to stay in the camps and do whatever he can to try and save other unwinds.
WHAT WORLD ARE THEY FROM? Unwind world
WHAT YEAR ARE THEY FROM? March 1981
HOW DOES THEIR WORLD DIFFER? Parents may choose to have their children unwound between the ages of 16-21; this has become an acceptable trend in the wizarding world because a witch's or wizard's magic may then be sold.
HOW DOES THIS CHANGE THEM? Remus is an unwound, so it increases his survival skills tenfold; in an odd way, it also helps him to foster more connections than canon Remus would, and brings him closer to Sirius.
THREE RANDOM FACTS
1. Sirius is the one that calls him Moonytunes. He likes to pretend to be annoyed by it, but he loves the nickname all the same.
WHAT ITEMS / OBJECTS OF NOTE DID YOUR CHARACTER HAVE ON THEM WHEN TAKEN? Remus appears wearing a very worn part of jeans and very worn T-shirt. He's wearing a pair of boots on his feet, and has one of Sirius' shoulders draped over his shoulders. He has a very lumpy scarf on that he made. On his person, he has his wand, and a few healing salves and bandages he keeps with him just in case he needs them.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PLOT IDEAS / WORLDS YOU'D LIKE TO SEE IN PLAY? A new world description comes with this one!
ANYTHING ELSE? NOTES? THOUGHTS? Nope!
FIRST PERSON: Sirius? Is Sirius Black here?
Please, I know it isn't typically the way these sort of places are run. But I just really need the truth right now. Is this a harvesting camp?
THIRD PERSON: Remus and Alphard Black discussing Sirius
